Announcing the official kick off German Sparkassenstiftung’s work in North Macedonia.

On November 18, 2021 from 10am to 1pm, stakeholders and partner organisations from the sectors finance, education, agriculture and rural development, partner organisations and financial institutions will gather for an Online National Stakeholder Workshop on Financial Inclusion in North Macedonia. The workshop will mark the official start of German Sparkassenstiftung’s work in North Macedonia, which will focus is on financial literacy, financial education and financial inclusion.

About German Sparkassenstiftung in North Macedonia

The project in North Macedonia will act as a part of the larger project, Strengthening Financial Literacy in the Republic of Albania, which started in June 2020. Following the success of the Albanian project, there were requests from institutions in North Macedonia for similar interventions. A fact-finding mission was conducted at the end of 2020 with encouraging results and German Sparkassenstiftung initiated its work in North Macedonia in August 2021.

About the Online Stakeholder Workshop

The workshop will act as a launching point for the project and will allow participants to gain more information about the planned project in North Macedonia as well hear the results of our 2020 fact-finding mission. In addition to discussing project objectives, the workshop will also provide a chance to create synergy among all stakeholders in addressing the challenges of financial literacy, financial education and financial inclusion in North Macedonia.

The workshop will be available in English, Macedonian, and Albanian and will include presentations from many high-profile individuals in the national and international fields of financial literacy, including a welcome address from both Mr. Niclaus Bergmann, the Managing Director of German Sparkassenstiftung and Mr. Otto Graf, the Deputy Head of Mission at the German Embassy in North Macedonia.

Ms. Ana Mitreska, the Vice-Governor of the National Bank of North Macedonia, will present the recently developed and adopted National Strategy on Financial Education and Financial Inclusion or North Macedonia, followed by an interactive presentation introducing all the workshop participants. Anja Deinzer, the Country Director of Albania and Regional Director of Sparkassenstiftung Southeast Europe, will then present an overview of German Sparkassenstiftung projects in both Albania and North Macedonia.

One of the most anticipated segments of the workshop is the presentation of the 2020 fact-finding mission in North Macedonia. The results will be presented by the team who carried out the mission: Dr. Irina Hetsch, Fact-Finding Mission Project Leader; Biljana Mojsovska Manojlova, Educational Expert; and Imer Dalipi, Financial Expert and will provide a foundation for the project in North Macedonia.

The workshop promises to be exciting, informative and interactive and will also include:

  • An interactive co-creation session;
  • The chance to ask questions;
  • An opportunity to bring forward ideas on potential intervention areas for DSIK in North Macedonia.

We look forward to this collaborative session and to working together to improve financial literacy, financial education and financial inclusion in North Macedonia.
